Keneseth Israel Synagogue is one of the oldest and most historic synagogues in SF. Founded over 100 years ago in the Fillmore District, it has been a cornerstone of the Jewish community and a symbol of hope and resilience through decades of change.
However, the synagogue is facing a critical moment in its history. We have begun to beautify the Shul, renovate and work on deferred maintenance so we can pray and congregate in a safe, clean and beautiful environment.
Your donation today will get the Shul ready for the busy summer when we host up to 100 Jews in the space for Shabbat, Holiday events and Torah Study groups! We will pray, bless, dance, sing, eat and drink in this space. Let's make it beautiful for everyone who walks in the door, from Hong Kong to Israel to Venezuela. This Shul welcomes Jews from all around the world on a weekly basis.
We are asking for your partnership to help us raise the remaining funds needed to move back to 873 Sutter Street. With your donation, you will be a part of history and help keep the legacy of one of SF oldest orthodox synagogues alive.
To date, we have raised $9,000 from our generous community stakeholders. But we still need your help to reach our goal. Our estimated move-in date is in just six weeks, and every dollar helps.
Please consider making a donation today. Any amount, no matter how small, will make a difference and help ensure that Keneseth Israel Synagogue can continue to serve as a spiritual home and community center for generations to come.
Thank you for your support.

About
About 5 years ago Keneseth Israel was going to completely fold with the rent in default for over 4 months. Rabbi Yosef Langer of Chabad SF decided to spring into action and put together funds to pay the rent and ensure the legacy of the Shul lives on. With Chabad SF's Positively 6th SOMA - Shul already established and growing, there wasn't really a need for another location downtown but due to the rich history and prime location and inexpensive rent, Chabad SF decided to assume responsibility. Every Sukkot we would move up to Keneseth Israel and celebrate there.
During the Pandemic, Chabad SF - SOMA Shul moved completely to Keneseth Israel. The community was growing and it was being revived. We started to renovate and unfortunately due to some unforeseen circumstances, we had to stop. Now we have restarted and hopefully will be ready to move back at the end of July 2023.
